4 Factors Causing Your Acne – And How To Fight Back

By Shannon Clark B Sc, MA   |

Suffering from acne? People can suffer from acne at all stages of their life. Some people have the impression that this only happens during your younger years when going through puberty, but that isn’t so.

Acne can occur in adults just as often as it does in younger teenagers if certain factors present themselves. The causes of adult acne can be different than what causes acne in teenagers however, so understanding why you are suffering from this problem is important.

Let’s go over four factors causing your acne and how you can fight back.

Stress

The first reason that you may be suffering from acne is due to a high stress lifestyle. Stress can cause acne prone skin to flare up around the neck and face region.

While not all stress you can control, do take steps to minimize what you can. Practicing proper stress reducing tactics can also help such as partaking in regular exercise, writing in a stress journal and making sure you have a few down hours each day as well.

Sugar-Filled Diet

Another thing that can impact acne as an adult is your diet. If you are consuming a diet that’s rich in sugar-laden foods or processed carbohydrates, this can lead to increased rates of acne development as well.

These foods will spike insulin levels, causing hormonal fluctuations throughout the body that can increase the occurrence of acne.

To help combat this, be sure to consume plenty of whole grains along with fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet plan.  In addition to that, limit your intake of these processed snack foods as much as possible.

Face Touching

One of the most common causes of acne that far too often gets overlooked is simply face touching. If you are constantly touching your face throughout the day, you are transferring dirt and oil to your skin, which can then go on to lead to breakouts.

As much as possible, make your face a touch-free zone. If you must touch your face for whatever reason, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands first before doing so.

Improper Cleansing

Finally, the last reason you may be experiencing more than normal breakouts is due to improper cleansing of your face.  If you are not using a product designed to treat acne prone skin such as our acne treatment product, this could be making your skin condition worse.

Certain facial cleansers will actually dry out the skin, which can then lead to you producing more oil resulting in the occurrence of acne.

Find a skin care product that is right for your skin type and make sure to cleanse your face twice daily – once when you wake up and once before bed.  Females should also be sure to remove all make up prior to going to bed as this can also cause the pores to become clogged and increase the development of acne as well.

So there are a few of the biggest reasons why you may be experiencing acne as an adult. If you notice any of these impacting you, make a few positive changes and you should be able to put acne behind you.
